“Evangelizing is in fact the grace and
vocation proper to the Church, her deepest identity. She exists in
order to evangelize…”
—Pope Paul VI, Evangelii Nuntiandi
“The purpose of evangelization is therefore precisely this
interior change, and if it had to be expressed in one sentence the
best way of stating it would be to say that the Church evangelizes
when she seeks to convert, solely through the divine power to the
message she proclaims, both the personal and collective consciences
of people, the activities in which they engage, and the lives and
concrete milieu which are theirs.”
—Pope Paul VI, Evangelii Nuntiandi
In Evangelii Nuntiandi, Pope Paul VI links the
prophetic mission of Jesus Christ, “I must proclaim the Good News of
the kingdom of God” (Lk 4:43), with the mission of the Chruch to “Go
and make disciples” (Mt. 28:19). This mission of the Chruch is
precisely derived from Christ’s mission. It is his Mystical Body
that carries on his (its) mission.

Our initial plan calls for operating 1230-AM in Pensacola, a 1000 watt day and nighttime station. Divine Word Radio borrowed the bulk of the purchase price, and will attempt to
raise enough funds to operate the station, plus repay the funds across a five year period.
The station will broadcast religious programming
that adheres to the teachings
of the Catholic Church, is interesting to the listener,
and will nurture the faith of Catholics. Additionally, our programming will
be an effective
evangelization tool for attracting non-Catholics to the
Church, allowing them to "eavesdrop" on Catholic truth
in a non-threatening way.
Next, we will look to expand into growing areas of the Pensacola-Tallahassee diocese to continue to expand the fruits of God's Divine Word. |
THE MARKET
|
There
are over 16,000 radio stations within the United States,
but very few to serve over sixty million Catholics.
Fortunately, this is changing - Catholic radio is
growing! Approximately 130 stations across the nation now
broadcast full or part time Catholic programming. This
is up from only four stations in 1993, and the
frequency with which new stations are being established
is not diminishing. In fact, as the Bishops of the
United States and North America turn toward the use of
Catholic radio more readily, the ministry should
experience phenomenal growth in the next five years.
|
The Gulf Coast market
is without any such programming at present. Our first
stage plans call for us to serve the Greater Pensacola
area, but we hope, if successful, to broaden our market
to serve the Mississippi and Florida coastal areas as
well. The apostolate,
Divine Word Radio, believes that the Gulf Coast market is fertile
ground for broadcasting the faith.
